Wild Camping at Oak Tree Cottage

Simple, peaceful, and as close to true wild camping as it gets.

What to Expect…

Described by Dixe Wills in Tiny Campsites as “simplicity is very much the watchword here” and “as close to wild camping as can be had on a campsite,” our Long Meadow offers a rare kind of quiet escape. If you’re looking for space, nature, and a slower pace, this is your place.

The Meadow

Pike’s Paws is a quiet site where nature comes first. Whether you’re here to stargaze, read, walk or simply breathe out, the meadow offers a calm, restorative space to enjoy the outdoors at your own pace.

Our one‑acre Long Meadow sits just off Cratfield Road, a peaceful country lane between the north Suffolk villages of Huntingfield and Cratfield. It forms part of our three‑acre organic small‑holding, a landscape of long grass, hedgerows, open fields, and a shallow stream running along one edge.

This is a quiet, low‑impact site best suited to solo campers or couples who want to unwind, listen to the birds, and enjoy the countryside at its most peaceful.

A mown pitch sits at the far end of the meadow with a fire pit and wide views across acres of countryside. You’re welcome to pitch anywhere within the meadow, and you’ll often be sharing the space with our regular visitors, barn owls, bats and the occasional muntjac deer.

We’ve found the meadow works best for single campers or couples. If you wish to bring children under 16, please get in touch with us to discuss your requirements and any additional charges.

Fury & Feathered Friends

Nothing says “wild camping” like a crackling fire. You’re welcome to use the fire pit and gather fallen wood from the meadow. Settle in, watch the sky darken, and enjoy the kind of night you just don’t get in town.

As you would expect, we love dogs, so you’re welcome to bring yours along, as long as they stay on a lead. There are beautiful local walks (with pubs en route), and plenty of space to run through the long grass.

Our small‑holding is home to chickens, sheep, ducks, and across the stream, you’ll spot Hazel and Willow, our famously friendly goats. Duck and chicken eggs are sometimes available to purchase, depending on the girls’ laying plans.
